Application Package

Dear Prospective Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing. You will have a number of important considerations to evaluate in selecting the school that is right for you. Here are some of the reasons given by our students who have chosen Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing this year:

  • Outstanding Faculty: The school's faculty is one of its richest educational resources with a large number of well qualified instructors available to assist you during classroom, recitation, laboratory and clinical learning experiences.

  • Personal Attention: An exceptional student-teacher ratio of 9 to 1 for clinical experiences ensures that each student will receive a high degree of individual attention, and the opportunity to achieve one's personal best. The school offers a summer institute to enable incoming students to review math, chemistry and test taking skills when additional preparation is needed in these subjects. Those who are returning to school after being out for a time, and those who are changing careers, will benefit significantly from this free summer enrichment program. In addition, our learning resource center allows students to progress at their own pace, utilizing advanced computer-assisted learning tools. Students are also assigned a faculty member who will be their academic advisor and will follow their progress throughout the program.

  • Excellent Financial Aid Program: Through the school's extensive financial aid program, qualified applicants are assisted in meeting tuition and school-related expenses through a combination of scholarships, grants, and loans. We offer a significant number of full scholarships through the Alex Hillman Family Foundation Scholarship Program.

  • Extensive Clinical Facilities: Beth Israel Medical Center, where you receive most of your clinical experience, is one of New York's outstanding health care systems. It offers an unusual combination of the best in teaching, research and technology capabilities in a caring and supportive environment.

  • Varied Program Options: Students may enroll in one of these four program options:

A. Two Year Nursing Option

  1. Traditional Schedule: Nursing and liberal arts/science courses Monday to Friday, varying time between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

  2. ATOP and Evening Schedules: These options are open only to those students who have already completed all of the curriculum’s liberal arts and science co-requisites, except for Nutrition and Diet Therapy and Pharmacology.

    • ATOP Schedule: Thursdays 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Fridays and Saturdays, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm

    • *Evening Schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays,
      5:30 pm to 10:30 pm

    • *Note: Evening schedule students have double summer
sessions, only one week off between semesters, and will
graduate approximately three months later than traditional or
      ATOP students.
  3. Three-Year Option: This option allows a student to attend school part-time, pursuing liberal arts and science courses the first year, and taking required nursing courses in the second and third year.
  • Comfort and Convenience: The school and the downtown Petrie Campus of the Medical Center are within close proximity, and the school is located at a brand new, state-of-the-art site. To facilitate time management, your liberal arts and biological science courses will be taught by Pace University faculty at the School of Nursing.

  • Diversity: Both your clinical experience and your classes are enriched by the diversity among students and patients. The current student body includes women and men from a broad cross-section of cultural backgrounds, ranging in age from 17 to over 50.

  • Excellent Opportunity for Continuing Education: At the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing you can complete your Associate in Applied Science Degree in two years and qualify for the R.N.-NCLEX examination. Upon graduation, you are eligible to matriculate for the B.S. degree in nursing at other colleges and universities in the area. If you already possess a bachelor’s degree in another discipline, you may enroll in the Masters in Nursing degree curriculum at Pace University after you graduate from our program, obtain your RN license and complete a bridge program.
