Pre-Enrollment Requirements

Transfer Students - Transfer Credits

Students may obtain transfer credit for liberal arts and science courses required by the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing by:

  • Successful completion of a comparable course from an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education with a grade of “C” or better. Science courses (Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology, Nutrition and Diet Therapy and Pharmacology) must be completed within the last five years. Liberal arts courses will be evaluated by the Admissions Committee on a case-by-case basis. A course description and/or syllabus may be requested for courses for which the student is requesting transfer credit.

All official transcripts must be submitted for Admissions Committee review. A Transfer Credit Assessment Form will be generated for each student. Prior to enrollment, students must review the Transfer Credit Assessment Form, indicate any courses in progress, and sign off on the form, acknowledging that the form lists all of the transfer credits awarded the student by the School of Nursing. Once updated transcripts are received by the School for courses recently completed, the Transfer Credit Assessment Form will be revised accordingly.

Advanced Standing

An applicant who previously attended a school of nursing and left in good academic standing may receive transfer credit(s) for a nursing course(s) comparable to the School’s required course(s). Additional testing may be necessary, and a recommendation from the head of the previous school of nursing is essential. Each candidate will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Health Requirements

A physical examination will be performed at Beth Israel Medical Center prior to enrollment. In addition, applicants must present evidence of all required immunizations or receive the needed vaccines. The annual health service fee includes the cost of any required immunizations through the Department of Occupational Medicine and enrollment in the Student Health Services Network. The correction or stabilization of any existing physical condition requiring professional attention is the responsibility of the applicant and must be effected prior to enrollment.

Basic Life Support Program

All students are required to complete a basic life support (BLS) course for healthcare providers which is offered by the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. Students must present valid evidence of successful completion of the appropriate CPR course prior to enrollment in the nursing option. A BLS course is offered by Beth Israel Medical Center for a nominal fee to all incoming students.

Non-immigrant Alien Students

This school is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. After acceptance, students requiring the F-1 student visa should immediately contact the Director of Student Services so appropriate documents can be filed with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
