The School and Its Resources

Since its inception as a diploma program in 1904, the School has undergone significant changes. In 1978, the School of Nursing received approval to grant the degree of Associate in Applied Science in Nursing. A major academic affiliation was established in 1983 with Pace University offering the liberal arts component of the program. In 1985, the School received full accreditation by the National League for Nursing and has maintained an outstanding record of reaccreditation. The current curriculum prepares graduates to practice nursing within the realities of today’s health care system. Major health problems are taught using a humanistic framework based on meeting patient needs in the hospital, in the home and in a variety of community based settings. In addition, the liberal arts and science curriculum is designed to enrich and expand the student’s perspective on nursing and society.

The curriculum is designed to allow students to achieve an Associate in Applied Science degree in two years.  Students can:

•   Obtain an education either on a full time or part-time basis.

•   Receive transfer credit for comparable courses.

•   Receive financial aid including scholarships, if eligible.

Students will:

•   Receive extensive clinical learning experiences provided within Beth Israel Medical Center and in other clinical facilities which are part of Continuum Health Partners.

•   Prepare to receive an Associate in Applied Science Degree which is required to take the NCLEX- RN Registered Professional Nurse Licensing Examination.

•   Prepare for a wide variety of career opportunities in nursing.

Extensive Academic Resources

The School maintains the fully equipped Hillman Nursing Skills Center (complete with computerized mannequins) where nursing faculty is available to assist in the development of nursing competencies. Nearby is the Learning Resource Center with high speed computers and Internet access to support learning.  A spacious Karpas Study Center is also available for both individual and small group study.

Other resources available to students include Pace University’s downtown campus Library and Learning facilities and the Beth Israel Medical Center’s Seymour J.
